Canadian Black Friday shopping

Wow, storage can be expensive…

We have been trying to plan the storage of our ashes once we leave this world.  Had our plans made right up to cremation and couldn’t or didn’t want to burden anyone with the decision of where to scatter or store our ashes.

Nice location

Finally decided on a niche at the local cemetery in Cedar just south of Nanaimo on Cedar Road.  This was the same agency that cremated mom in 1982 and found them to be quite approachable and again this time we really appreciated the time taken to explain everything to us.

We’re told that very few people want to discuss death or dying or the after affects but really this is in aid of who we leave behind, not the one(s) who die.

So even Jack and Cate were invited by the planner into the meeting and got treats and good sniffs (one would assume).

Now we did mention cost.  So believe it or not the higher up the monument you reserve your niche space, the cheaper it is, unlike buying a condo.  So we choose the top and saved $500.

So now we have to make 4 equal payments for the niche and the opening and closing and upkeep in-memorial and voila, there we stay.

P.S. – Just shopping for a Jimmy Buffett themed urn.  Didn’t realize they would be so hard to find.

Celebrate what you enjoyed!!

Celebrate what you enjoyed!!

You know when you are the youngest in the family (or maybe not) but you have someone older.  You wish and wish that you could be older.  Then when you get there it wasn’t as wonderful as you thought.  Well as time continues on and we are celebrating our brother and sister’s birthday today.

Their 60th and thankful that we are here to be able to acknowledge it and celebrate where we have all been these past years.  The roads we have traveled and the friends we have made.  Best of all….. still not 60 yet!! (na-na-na-boo-boo!!)

Peek at the past….

As most of you probably already know that fate, chance, fortune or whatever has brought our new landlord and us together.  The couple that own our rental also own and live in the house that we grew up in 40 some years ago in Nanaimo.

Lot’s has changed with the place including updating the exterior architecture.  They have done an amazing transformation over the past 20 + years.  We got together this past weekend for a lovely supper and shared some stories and took a few pictures.

While at supper we also learn that the husband is actually the nephew of Harold’s son-in-law. (Trudy and Harold)  Now that is way too connected, wouldn’t you think?

I sometimes stop and today is no exception and look at what I have done over these years.  Today is the 48th running of the Nanaimo bathtub races.  Although they don’t go across the strait of Georgia to Vancouver anymore, it was still fun to see them again.  Now my racing days….out of usually 150-200 tubs that start about 75 finish.

I finished the two years I ran and improved from 58th to 51st, not bad for a guy from Alberta at the time….

The tub didn't float or run the same in the fresh water but it ran....really well just the same!

For all the bikers out there with a garage door…
